Remember this sculpture in the hallway by the aft staterooms? When we visited Portofino, we always enjoyed stopping by the sculptor’s gallery. In 1997, when we took possession of the first Tamsen, we bought this piece.
Here we are bringing the sculpture aboard the Tamsen in 1997.
The gallery has been gone for several years, but this time I spotted a sculpture similar to ours in a smaller gallery on the other side of the harbor. I asked the woman: “Did you used to have a gallery across the courtyard?” and she said, “Yes, are you...Firestone?” She is the daughter of the sculptor (he’s in his late 80’s and still producing) and when she was a child, she came with her father on Tamsen when he delivered a piece of art to us. She remembered there being a lot of children on board. She also remembered that Bob bought “a lot of art."
I bought this piece because it reminds me of the sculpture and of Bob and how he enjoyed purchasing art as we traveled to so many different parts of the world.
